Stuff to do with your kids before the Holidays

I am a teacher and I just published a blog post with ideas on what teachers can do with the students and then I thought, ” Hey waht about mums and dads?”. So, I have adapted my blog post and have written a post with ideas on what you can do with your kids. Here are some ideas 😀

  • Christmas/holidays around the world project: Get your kids to find information about how Christmas is celebrated around the world. It may be a good idea to do some research on how people in Australia celebrate cause it is summer over there :). You can also send your them to this website  and ask them to  out.
  •  Sock Snowman: Make a snowman out of a sock.

  • 3D paper tree: Again time for some video-viewing. Make some 3D paper trees and decorate your house with them.

  • Christmas gingerbread men streamers. Get a string of paper and get each student to draw a gingerbread man. Then cut out the men and make a hole on the top of the paper and hang it in your house.

Picture from http://www.enchantedlearning.com. Found here

  • Make gingerbread men: watch  the recipe with your children and then make  gingerbread men.

  • Make decorative banners using various Christmas Fonts with your kidss. You can find free Christmas fonts here.
  • Online Christmas trivia: Get your kids to answer questions about the holidays. This can be done online. You can find the quiz here.

  • Pin Rudolph’s red nose. How do you play? Find a picture of Rudolph online, blindfold your kids, turn them round in circles for a bit, and then ask them to pin Rudolph’s nose. This activity is loads of fun and young ones.

  • How about watching a movie related to the holidays? Here are some movie ideas:

The Polar Express

Home Alone

Frosty the Snowman

Miracle on 34th Street

The Muppet Christmas Carol

It is a wonderful life

  • Go to audible.com and use the free trial option to listen to Charles Dickens audiobook (it is 2hrs 54 mins long).
  • Play Christmas word snake. How is this played? Each person takes turns to write a word connected to holiday season on the board. The final letter of A’s word is the first letter of  B’s word.

                                     Christmas

                                                       Santa

                                                                 Angel

                                                                           Lantern

  • Time to make a card for the Holidays! You can find templates here or improvise!!

  • Play Holiday season Bingo (make word or picture Bingo cards). You can find templates here.

Moocatpaper: Etsy store owner interview

Today’s Etsy store feature is Moocatpaper who specvialises in Washi tape. So, let’s see what Laura, the owner told me 🙂 and have a look at some of her winter favourites ❤

Hi Laura! Thanks for agreeing to this interview. Can you tell me a few things about yourself?

My name is Laura Brown and I’m 33 from the UK. I am a stationery addict and have been for as long as I can remember. I love a good to do list and can often be seen scribbling notes in my Uncoiled Erin Condren. I have two children who aren’t allowed to touch the pretty things in my office so they are slightly obsessed with buying their own now.

You sell Washi tape. How and why did you start selling washi tape?
When I got my planner I found a distinct lack of washi tape products available in the UK for people buying in the UK and that when I had ordered things myself I wasn’t impressed with the delivery times.
I decided to source my own which are shipped the same or next day delivery 6 days a week. That combination of customer service, great products and smooth delivery is what keeps people coming back to Moocat Paper.
Is there anything else someone can find at your Etsy store? Do you have any favourite types of stickers?
In the Etsy store you can find Page Flags, Pens and Notebooks as well as branded and Moocat Washi Tape. I love using stickers in my planner from UK based suppliers such as Elliebeth Designs, AgentPuku, Stickleco and ellenbee
If you could turn back time to the day you opened your store, what advice would you give yourself? Any top tips?
Don’t rush. I did and within the space of two weeks I was already changing the name of the company and the branding. Make sure you read everything Etsy has to offer to help manage your business.

Can you share with us your favourite washi for fall/ winter and the holiday season? (pls add some pics here)
washi one.jpg

Washi 2

washi 3

How do you plan? How do you use washi in your own planning?

I plan in advance but have learnt to use pencil now as I hate crossing things out. I use Washi tape to brighten up the week and use thin washi to divide the week from the weekend.
Where can people find you? How can we connect with you?

KIKO MILANO makeup (mini) haul and reviews

Last weekend I was in Barcelona and while I was walking around I saw a KIKO MILANO store, so I decided to go in especially since I can’t get KIKO MILANO products at home (except if I shop online).

Makeup.jpg

What did I get?

Nail polish

I bought 2 sparkly (pearly) nail polishes. One is fuchsia with pink glitter and the other one is blue with green glitter (yes, I know that sounds kinda weird, but they are pretty colours). The bottles say number 502 and 530.

Mini review:

The pink one looks fine with just one coat (I opted for 2 though). The blue one needs two coats. They were great value for money (they were on sale, so mine cost 1.90 euros each!) and they don’t chip.

I love KIKO MILANO nail polish. They don’t go off in the bottle either. I have a nail polish I got 2 years ago and it is still in great condition.

Mascara

I got the Extra Sculpt Waterproof Mascara in black. It cost 8.90 euros.

Mini review:

I was really excited to try this product. My first attempt was a disaster. The wand is huge and I could not go into the lashes like I usually do. I smudged it everywhere, but even though I smudged it and I looked like a panda bear, I thought I’d give it another shot. So I did. This time I used half of the wand and applied it extra carefully. Slow motions. I ❤ the way it looked in the end. BUT I will never apply it if I am in a rush, it takes a lot of time to get it right, and you need to be very careful. The wand also has a lot of product on it, so you need to make sure you have only the amount you need. It also needs some time to dry. Would I recommend buying it? If you are on a budget and a bit clumsy with mascara, then no. If you like trying new things, then yes, because it does make your lashes stand out. Seriously. I was in love with the result (after the 2nd attempt).

Lip product

I got the KIKO MILANO Lip relief. This is a product that is supposed to hydrate your lips. This is promoted as an intensive stick.

Mini review:

My lips needed a bit of hydration. They felt dry so I grabbed this product. It has an SPF 15.  It feels like any other lip balm. Yes, it’s nourishing and it leaves a very subtle shine, which is nice. The packaging is really pretty. Sure, I’d repurchase this one. It did what it was supposed to do.

dark

Feel free to leave a comment below regarding your favourite KIKO MILANO products. Remember to follow this blog (check out the side bar on ways to do that). Keep in mind, I am a teacher, not a makeup artist. I review products the same way I would review them if I were talking to my friends about a new product I bought! This is not a sponsored post. I purchased everything with my own money. Thanks for reading!

So, that’s for now.

Pretty Paper Designs: Interview and free planner printable

I am a member of the Mambi Happy Planners group and there I met a lovely girl. Stacie Jo. She has a blog called Pretty Paper Designs and she uploads planner sticker sheets free for anyone to use. I liked her work and we started chit chatting a bit online, I thought I’d ask her a few questions about her planner/sticker journey for my blog. So, let’s see what Stacie Jo said.

1. Tell us a bit about your blog?

I love the idea of bringing free designs and ideas to other planner and scrapbook lovers out there. Though I love the etsy shops available, I can understand that not everyone has the funds to purchase already made stickers and accessories.
And that is how PrettyPaperDesigns was born! On my blog PrettyPaper Designs.weebly.com you will find my free printables. I have also just begun a YouTube channel and there I will teach you how to create planner stickers and other accessories so you can add those personal touches to your planner all on your own

2. Why stickers and planning?

I have always been a planner girl since receiving my first planner back in school, but I never even knew there was a whole world of sticker planning until a Youtube video came across my screen and I was sucked in to the planner world of stickers, Target dollar spot, and Staedtler pens.

3. How do you plan?

There are many ways that people can plan but I am part of the pre-plan variety. A video explaining how I Pre-plan will be going live on my YouTube channel September 30th!

4. What are your future plans?

In the future I hope to branch out and show my viewers how to make accessories such as planner clips, bookmarks, dashboards and other cute little creations for their planner. I was trying to think of how I could bring this idea to my blog and I think the perfect way would be to hold RAKs (random act of kindness) on my blog. Though there are some amazing etsy shops out there I do not see one in my future. There is more to opening a shop then I think that most people realize and I already have my blog and channel to keep me busy 🙂

GabisPlannerPrints: Etsy store owner Interview

Hi lovelies!!

Time for another  Etsy store feature. Today it  is GabisPlannerPrints/GabisPaperCo. She talks about herself, her store and is so kind to share a printable and a coupon code just for us!! (yay). So, let’s see what Jennifer (the store’s owner tells us).

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for agreeing to chat. So, can you tell me a bit about yourself?

I’m Jennifer and I live in the beautiful state of Oregon with my husband of 5 years, 2 kiddos and my third is due to join us in January.  I love all things crafty and working with my hands.  I made my first quilt when I was 9 years old!!  I also enjoy cooking, baking, sewing, and I can do one heck of a chain stitch when I crochet 😉   My Erin Condren Planner is an extension of my brain and my pregnancy brain would be lost without it.  Playing with my planner is my #1 hobby right now because it gives me a chance to brain-dump and some much needed me-time after the kiddos go to sleep.  I find that I sleep much better and fall asleep quicker when I can get my to-do list and thoughts down on paper.

How and why did you start making stickers?

I was a scrap booker for many years and I’m pretty sure that is where my love for stickers started.  I have been using planners for years and stumbled onto Erin Condren while watching a vlogger that I follow.  In the process of using a planner more, scrapbooking less, having children, and realizing that I have too many things to tuck into my memory bank to remember; my planner started to become a memory keeper as well.  I started to use my scrapbooking stickers but they didn’t match the color themes of my Erin Condren Planner and I wanted to change the headers to fit my needs.  I do not buy anything that I can make myself.  This is why I have not dabbled in cake decorating yet… I would eat all the cake all the time!  So, I went to my encyclopedia of learning known as Youtube and realized that I can make my own stickers!  I have really enjoyed designing the stickers, and using my own creation is rewarding.  My 4-year-old daughter thinks that having a mama who makes stickers is the greatest thing ever!

What about ideas? Can you tell us what inspires you?

Life, my kiddos, and the Erin Condren color themes.  I named the store after my kids:  Gabriel + Abigail = Gabi’s.  You all will have to wait until January to know what the “s” is for.  My designs are always evolving to match the needs of what I am currently planning and the monthly color schemes play a big role in that as well.  I love florals and jewel tones!  I’m finding that I write SO MUCH in my planner that I have decided to get a second planner and just recently a 3rd planner!!  I love the EC for my 3 main uses: To Do, Work/Homeschooling, Little Things (this is my memory section and kind of like a scrapbook)  I’m running out of room to write and I don’t want to tote all that information along with me when I leave the house.  My Erin Condren will be my planner for all things work/Etsy related.  I want a Plum Planner to be my household/home binder of all things important and daily tasks.  And the 3rd planner for all the wonderful memories of my family and life.  This will be especially helpful for tracking milestones for baby #3.  I have not decided what type of planner yet.  Any suggestions would be lovely!  Now that I am expanding my style of planners; I will also be offering stickers to fit ALL of them.

What can someone find at your Etsy store?

So far, I have been designing stickers based on what I would want in my own planner.  Actually, almost all of the stickers that are in my shops are there because I made them for myself and decided to share them with others.  Planning can be a very expensive hobby.  I wanted to offer printable’s and stickers that are affordable, low shipping costs, good quality, and thin so that they don’t add too much bulk to our planners.  Printable’s are great for those who enjoy DIY projects, saving money, and getting more bang for your buck.  I am adding more designs weekly as I create the stickers for my own weekly spreads.

I have been having a lot of fun making paper clips to match my themes.  I will be adding decorating kits to my shop very soon.  The kits will have washi and paper clips that coordinate with the stickers.  I too am on a budget and have limited storage space.  And that inspired me to create kits.  Just enough washi to create a spread without owning a whole roll!

If you could turn back time to the day you opened your store, what advice would you give yourself? Any top tips?

Keep printable’s separate from physical stickers so that customers are not confused about what type of product they are receiving.  Originally my shop, Gabi’s Planner Prints, was printable’s and then I added physical stickers.  I have recently separated them and the physical sticker shop is Gabi’s Paper Co.  I am now in the process of redesigning the physical stickers with the correct shop name and retaking photos.  Must have good lighting!!  This is another reason why I am re-doing my photos.  It is all a learning process.
Now let’s move on to planning. 6. How do you plan? Planning usually takes place on a quiet evening after everyone has fallen asleep.  I gather my: stickers, black Pilot G-2 .05 pen, washi tape, lemon ginger tea with honey, and I sit at my desk and enjoy the process.  It’s the end of the day and I finally sit down to relax; therefore, cue the baby and the kicking!  I reposition my stickers often due to my arm touching my belly and it getting kicked.  I look forward to planning because it is just me, the baby, and my thoughts.  I treasure uninterrupted thoughts 😉  I decorate my week and plan for Monday and a little bit for Tuesday.  Add over the last month I have tried different styles of decorating to showcase my product and share it on Instagram and Facebook.  I have learned that I am NOT a no-white planner.  I have way too much to write and I find that all the color makes focusing on the words a bit difficult for me.  I really enjoy looking back at my weeks and reading my “Little Things” sections.  Plus the pages are decorated and it is like looking at a scrapbook.

Connecting with you :). Where can people find you?

Red+Blue=Purple cause painting is like maths

I started painting because I wanted to do something different,  and get out of the house a bit more ( I am an online teacher so the last ‘goal’ was really important). I also wanted to avoid burnout.

While I definitely am not a first class talented painter, I am quite pleased with what I have done so far. One more reason I decided to start painting was because I wanted to challenge myself. I am colour blind and painting for a colour blind person is……….pushing it.

When I started painting lessons, I struggled, but I also learnt a lot about colours and how to match them. I now look at colours as if they are math. Yeap, you read correctly, I said maths. While I am unable to actually ‘see’ the colours, I think I can now paint without knowing what exactly I am using.

Lists, numbers. Red + blue=purple

My painting teacher sat with me and we wrote down the names of all the colours and the corresponding tube numbers. Before moving on, I need to say that the batch of colours I have has the names of colours written in funny names (or is that Italian?) So, for example, when a tube had the name ‘Siena Bruciato’  and the number 3 on it, I wrote: this means a red, orange, browny colour- number 3.

My list of colours was ready. My teacher then told me how to use colours and which colours are warm and which are cooler tones. Warm colours in painting are red and yellow. Blue is a cool tone. We use warm colours in the foreground, and cool colours in the background of paintings. You can make a colour cool or warm depending on how much paint you use when you are mixing colours. So, if I want to use purple for example, and I want it to be a cool tone, I use more blue (background colour), if I want it to be warm, I use more red (this will pop out in a painting). I also learnt that green is a neutral colour. White is used to make lighter versions of a colour (something like toning down). There are different types of whites and the best one is Titanium white (don’t ask me why, just accept it, welcome to my world) and black should be avoided. If you want to use black, it’s better to use a dark blue.

So, now I can paint without being able to ‘see’ the colour. The only difficulty I have is making the same shades of colours from one painting lesson to the other. You see, I cannot measure the drop of paint that goes into the colours, so if I put red and blue together to form purple, I won’t be able to make the exact same colour next time, cause I won’t be able to ‘see’ the colour. I have two solutions for that, one I have already tried the other is a thought.

Solution 1= make a shade and use it all in one session. Finish painting whatever you have started with the same blob of colour.

Solution 2= I need to invent some sort of paint measuring device. The only thing I can think of is either a spatula that is used to put make up on or the thing we use to measure medicine, but then my whole painting is like math will turn to painting is like chemistry so I would probably have to rewrite the whole post. That’s why I am sticking to solution 1.

My 1st painting. I have strayed from the original Van Gogh. This is Jo's room. It still needs work. Painting is hard :)

My 1st painting. I have strayed from the original Van Gogh. This is Jo’s room. It still needs work. Painting is hard 🙂

So, that’s all for now. Remember to follow/subscribe to my blog if you like what you see. Check out the category tab on the sidebar for more posts on colourblindness.

Plan with me: 9-15th November

Hi lovelies!

Here is this week’s spread. I am really looking forward to this week cause I am flying to Barcelona for a teachers’ conference.
