Resolutions vs. To Do’s

Lots of people make New Year Resolutions, but I don’t and I will tell you why. I like setting goals and being productive, but I do not feel the need to make a list of goals for 2017 especially at the beginning of the year because I will probably disappoint myself in the end. You see….

Sure

I want to lose weight

Save money

Travel to exotic destinations

Learn new things/ start hobbies/ start a course

Be more social

Be productive and stop wasting time on stuff

But calling them resolutions?

Nope.

And what is a resolution anyway?

It is,

a promise to yourself to do or to not do something

Cambridge Online Dictionary

So a promise. For me a promise is too La La landish. It doesn’t make me get things done. I prefer action. Planning, making lists, writing things down and feeling guilty when I do not end up doing them.Ah yes…. the guilt trip, such an underrated productivity incentive.

Just because it is the first of January, doesn’t mean my life is going to change and I am going to turn into a sports freak or a money saving gal. So, instead, I make a plan and think of ways I will make this happen.  I write down what I want to do, why and how I am going to accomplish it, and then keep writing everything  down in my To Do list

That brings me to my next point. The To Do list. One for 2017, a monthly one, a weekly one, and a daily one.Period.Excessive? Kinda, but you are not a slave to the To Do list. You can switch from one to another. I think everyone should have To Do lists.

2017 To Do list

Write down stuff you want to achieve in 2017 for example, and then check them off the list. When you do something, tick it off the list. The satisfaction of ticking off something that is in the To Do list is amazing. Realising my To Do’s is more important to me than a bunch of resolutions. So, get your note book, start writing down your Big To Do’s and your little ones.

My experience

I write down my weekend To Dos, daily To Do’s, and sometimes Weekly to Dos. If something does not get done in a week, I move it to the next week.I do not stress about my To Do’s though.

What’s the difference between a resolution and a To Do?

resolutions

Well, as I said earlier, in my opinion, ummmm, resolutions are too flimsy…. wishy washy…. and there are a lot of “I will” in them. To Do lists on the other hand, are formed by using the imperative ( yup, the teacher geek in me is going all grammar cray cray on ya). I have loads of notebooks and planners and I make lists and tick things off.

So, that’s all for now. FYI: this weekend I made no To Do list and did not get much done unless you call watching YouTube videos getting something done. So, going back to my lists as of tomorrow. Have a lovely day/ evening.

11 Facts about me (YouTube Tag)

Hi everyone!!

Not going to talk about Valentine’s day or Galentine’s day. Nope. I am going to share a video I posted on my YouTube channel. It’s the 11 facts about me. I may have answered more than 11 questions, but hey, I am an English teacher, not a maths teacher :p

So, show me some love, maybe….? It would mean the world to me (not literally, but it would put a smile on my face)if you subscribed to my channel.

Oh… yeah… the top of my head is missing… but you can imagine what’s missing.

So, here goes!!!

Hi everyone!!!

It’s time for January Favourites. In today’s post I will talk to you about the things I loved in January. I will talk about beauty, stationery, TV, Ted talks and lots of other neat stuff. I also made a video with my favourites, so do check out my video if you want more details about what I mention in my post (plus I am trying to grow my channel, so it would mean the world to me if you subscribed). OK! Enough with the babbling, let’s begin.

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Beauty ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

TooFaced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

I got the Toofaced bronzer in medium/ deep because I ran out of the medium shade which was in my Cocoa Contour Palette (another fave), so instead of buying the whole palette again, the sales assistant suggested I try this bronzer because it is cool toned and lots of people use it to contour (and it is similar to what is in the Cocoa Contour Palette). In the beginning, I was terrified cause it looks really dark in the pan, but I was brave and blended it in and now it is in my favourites!!!

Clinique Powder brush

I needed a new powder brush and I am really happy with the Clinique Powder brush I got. It is pony hair and very soft. It does not scratch your face. It picks up just enough powder.

Clinique Aromatics White

This is probably my most …. ‘sniffed’ perfume!!1 All my friends keep asking me,

what are you wearing Joanna?

and I say the Clinique Aromatics White. It is a strong perfume that smells like the baby of Chanel No5 and Talc baby powder. There are floral notes and amber notes and it smells amazing. It lasts all day. When you first spray it on you, you will be scared but I suggest you walk around the store and then make your decision. I LUV IT!

Chanel Eye Stylo

Chanel 197 eye stylo. It is a beautiful green/ brown/ silvery shade. It does not crease or budge. Chanel comes out with different shades every season and they are limited edition. It’s very expensive though. I got mine for 30 euros.

No7 Lipstick

I have received a lot of compliments about my No7 lipstick inn the colour flame. It is what I am wearing in the picture (and how cool is my white winter coat, huh?). Anyway. I love this lippie and No7 lipsticks are great!

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Stationery ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

You know me, I love me my stationery, so I love my Cath Kidston letter and envelope note pad. It is two in one. You write your letter and then fold it up and it becomes a letter. It has loads of different pages with different designs!! If you are a stationery junkie, like me, check it out.

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Random ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Suits is back!! It’s probably one of my favourite TV shows and it is back!!! yaya. It is a legal drama, set in New York. I really enjoy watching it.

I also watched an amazing TED talk about a man who cannot see colours and has a device attached to his head in order to help him hear colours. You see for him colours are sounds. So purple is a different sound and white is something else. It is very interesting to watch It lasts 9 minutes and you can check it out here.

For more favourites, check out my video :). I also talk about some empties and whether I will or will not repurchase (Korres, Nivea)

My white Birthday, lunching by the beach & chanel

Hi everyone!!

I thought I’d share this week’s vlog video, but I also thought I’d write a short post and share some pictures with you.

So, at the beginning of the year, I went to this area called Halepa (Chania, Crete) and had a lovely lunch by the beach. The restaurant is literally on the beach. II went with my friend and we ordered some lovely food. Meat pie,, we had soup and a yummy mushroom and pork risotto.

I bought a lovely white winter coat from Marc’s and Spencer and I really love it. It is being sold at M&S at the moment. I think a white coat is a staple and everyone should have one.

Not bad eh?

My Birthday

My birthday was on the 8th of January and it snowed!! Yup. It hasn’t snowed in my town since 2004. That’s 13 years!! I was so happy. It was lovely. A white birthday.

Saturday the 14th

I am a teacher and some of my students were taking a language proficiency test, so I had to spend my Saturday at the hotel trying to offer moral support. It was quite relaxing actually. I had a lovely coffee and read Instyle. I also got to wear my Chanel No.197 (green/ silver). I thought it lasted well even though my application was not that great(I missed a spot).

My Vlog

In my vlog you get to see all of this. I am trying to grow my channel, so any TLC would be appreciated (maybe subscribe or share? ❤ ❤ ).

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Talk soon.

Tangle Teezer Review (Lulu Guinness Design)

dsc_0061

Hi everyone!

Today’s post is going to be a product review of the Tangle Teezer which is a brush that detangles your hair. You can also use it to style your hair.  I was sent this product and was so excited to try the brush because I had heard so many things about it on YouTube and blogs. So, I got to choose what I wanted to try and I chose the LuLu Guiness Design and my Tagle Teezer is the Compact one.

Why did I choose the Lulu Guinness one?

Cause it had little lipsticks on it!! Yes. So as you can see in the pictures, there are pink and lilac and purple little lippies. What’s not to love ladies?

Why did I choose the compact?

Because it was small and would fit in my bag. The measurements are actually

Height: approx 4.5 cm.

Width:approx. 6 cm.

Length: approx.8 cm.

dsc_0064

What does it claim to do?

According to the Tangle Teezer  website,

It is a handbag friendly brush

It detangles the hair leaving it smooth and shiny.

What do you think Jo (aka me)?

I like this brush. It detangles my hair and does not hurt. It does not get stuck in my hair when I wake up looking like a lioness!! The finish is nice soft straight hair- not frizzy. Is it really handbag-friendly? Well, that depends on the size of your bag. If it is a medium/ bigger bag, then yes. If it is a clutch, then no. Does it leave your hair shiny? I don’t think it’s the brush that makes the hair shiny. I think that when your hair is nice and straight it will shine anyway, so yes and no. It is also very durable. Sure, it is not the cheapest brush you can get your hands on (in Greece Sephora sells it for 18 euro), but how often do you buy brushes anyway? Plus this brush is made of good materials. Nothing flimsy about it!

Do you recommend it?

Yes. Especially if your hair gets tangled a lot. There are also other types of brushes you may want to check out. They come in pretty designs and anyway ladies,

we all want to have good hair days!!

Thanks for stopping by!! Don’t forget to follow my blog and let me know in the comments below how you feel about the Tangle Teezer? Have you bought one?

Losing Myself: Struggles of an Overwhelmed Blogger

untitled

When I first started blogging, it was (kinda) part of a course I was doing (I am a teacher) Blogging was a way for me to reflect on my teaching ideas and so on. I started off as an educational blogger. I loved it. I loved sharing my teaching ideas, whining about teaching and communicating with other teachers.

As time went by, I wanted to include more topics and talk about my interests, so I started writing about books, my trips, then came makeup (and a whole girlie side of ELT aka English language teaching). My edublog started to become a bit too lifestyle-ish.

That’s when I decided I would start a second blog. This one. A fun blog where I would talk about my hobbies, my thoughts, boast about the things I have. My blog was an ode to my materialism coz I love shopping and talking about it.

I was a happy bunny. All good. I have actually been double-blogging for about a year and a half. Of course, now I blog more here than on my edublog. Let’s move on though, shall we? Now, as if a second blog was not enough, I decided I also wanted to start a YouTube channel and I did.I enjoy making videos. I like the interaction.

And?

Well, I cannot keep up. I have ended up going from writing my thoughts and sharing stuff, to talking mostly about products and that’s not who I am. I mean do not get me wrong folks.

I ❤ shopping

but in order to keep up, I have followed the norm and started just posting about what everyone else publishes. Talking about what everyone else talks about. But blogging, which was my creative outlet, is not my creative outlet anymore. I have been sucked into the:

Get Views

Do SEO

Become Self hosted

Take instagrammable pictures

Promote

Publish

Become a brand

Get a camera/ Be more professional

So, now I have added more stuff on my To Do lists. Now, I gotta learn how to take videos/ photos, edit, import/ export stuff and yada, yada, yada.

And I stopped having fun. I feel a bit overwhelmed and not seeing the results I wanna see. Sure, my numbers have risen. I even got proper blogger mail, but I cannot keep up because I have a job and a life plus I am old. 40.

I have actually started to think that in order to be successful at blogging Youtubing, apart from being 20+, you also need to be unemployed cause, in my mind, there is no way you can be on top of your game if you work full time. Maybe I am inefficient and watch too much TV or something and cannot be as productive as others, or maybe I am comparing myself to other bloggers/ YouTubers (I feel ‘funny’ calling my self a YouTuber, but anyhoo) and

this the comparison, the do this, do that, is not making me happy.

Dunno what I am going to do, but something has to go, or I need to stop taking blogging/ YouTubing so seriously and just take it easy. But these options are not gonna cut it. I mean, I may not be a famous blogger, but I do have readers (especially my edublog) and I don’t want to ‘destroy’ what I built! So, what can I do??

We live in a time were in order to succeed, you got to do more. And then more. And that more doesn’t necessarily have to be good. It may just exist, but it’s out there and it’s more. A time where we are always setting goals, trying to hit a target. Aiming at something, but does that bring joy?

I mean, I get burnout and lack of inspo when you are a workaholic, but burnout as a freakin blogger? C’mon…. Really?? Is this what I want? Hell no!!

So, this is where I am. Trying hard to juggle a million balls. Stressing myself out for no real reason. Chasing the unchasable (is that a word).

Thanks for reading. I am usually more fun… but I do ramble.
