I Cannot Do It

So, you know how I said,

” I will be doing #Blogmas & #Vlogmas together”.

I cannot.

I do not have time to do everything.I have a full time job, two blogs, committments,  and a new YouTube channel. It is too much. Soooooooooo,  I decided I will keep posting blog posts whenever I can and also be sharing my vlogmas videos here, in case any of my lovely readers wants to subscribe to my channel or watch my videos.

So, I did a Zara bag haul video which is a review of a few bags/ purses I got from Zara., There are 2 going out bags and two everyday bags.

The haul is here.

I also posted a vlog. You see me walking around my town Chania, Crete. I show your the shops. We do not have malls in Chania, just small local stores. Of course we have chains, but the majority are family businesses. I also go for dinner and I show you what I had.

The Vlog is here.

I am editing more videos and I think my video quality is improving. This is a learning process. I really want to hit 100 subscribers by the end of the year cause I cannot get a domain name before I hit 100. It would be great if you helped me out. I will be doing little giveaways during vlogmas, so stay tuned.

Have a lovely day/ night guys. Follow my blog. Connect with me on social media. You can check out my sidebar on ways to connect.

The pink bubble

When you have been single for a while and meet someone you like, it is very easy to be sucked up by emotions you have wanted to feel for a while and believe. The pink bubble is born.

thumbnail_img_20160917_1003541

Makeup covers everything

You believe in words that are just words. In fact, it is very easy  to fall for words. It is very easy to make someone into something they are not, to believe in something that is not there, to have expectations, to create an ‘imaginary boyfiend’. A man you want that person to be.Because you want to believe and coz you’ve been alone for a while and you are a romantic soul. You want your imaginary boyfriend to be real. Well, I guess he is real, but you want him to be your real. The pink bubble gets bigger.

Christmas pic 1

But how easy is it for a real person to fill the shoes of an imaginary boyfriend. The one you wish for. the one you try to make someone into. How often have you heard the phrase,

He will change……

Should he? Why? Coz that’s what you want?

I often tell my friend D. that whenever something isn’t going the way you want it to, just act dumb. Act dumb. Just don’t say anything. Don’t burst the pink bubble.

Of course, I never listen to my own advice. I never act dumb or maybe I do, and then I snap out of it, and say what I want to say. Then the bubble bursts.

Then, when the bubble bursts, there are two ways to go. Be real and forget about the freaking bubble. Accept the other for what they are and move on building an honest relationship or give up and create a new pink bubble. There is actually a third way. One of wanting the buble and the other not wanting the bubble.

Bottom line….

Finding someone who makes you happy is hard.

Bottom line under the bottom line…….

It’s all about a bubble or lack of.

My Eyecrayons/stylos collection and swatches

Hi everyone!!

I made a video where I talk about different eyeshadow crayons/ stylos I have. I swatch them for you and talk about price and what I think about them.

The comapnies I talk about are

If you have bad eyesight like me, I think that eyeshadow crayons are the way to go because they allow you to have a better control of what you are using and there are not that many chances of fallout.

You can watch the video here. I know the lighting is funny, but I am still trying to figure out how to film.

Thanks for stopping by. Don’t forget to follow me somewhere somehow (check sidebar/ YouTube).

Have a lovely day/ night.

H&M Cosmetics Haul: My 1st Video

So, I have always wondered about whether I’d like to make videos and move to YouTube. Thing is, I like watching YouTube videos, I am chatty, and I am definitely not camera shy. So, I tried to make a video today and it kinda failed. My camera stopped recording in the middle. Some footage is missing, my face is fat, and my hair is all over the place. I fidget a lot. I also forgot to swatch one of the lippies, so of course this is not going on YouTube, but I am sharing it here cause:

  • I did do a small H & M haul.
  • It is important to be able to make fun of yourself and not take yourself too seriously.

H7M haul.jpg

So, here are my 1st video. Excuse my face. I never realised I made so many faces :p

Here is the lip gloss and swatches in pics. I know, I know. I sucked at this xxx

thumbnail_20161024_1040471

and swatches

thumbnail_20161024_104013-11

and then part 2 coz my camera stopped.

So, this was my first lame attempt at making a video. I have learnt a lot and will actually be uploading videos on my YouTube channel. I will make a proper H&M cosmetics haul video (again) cause some of the things I bought are missing. I am also going to change the background and film some planner reviews, a skin care video and a clothing haul. If you want to subscribe to my channel, I’d love that (<3  <3). Do click here. My videos will be going live this week (just in case you are sitting at the edge of your seat).

My favourite Beauty/Fashion YouTube Channels (part 2)

youtube-channels

Morning everyone (or afternoon, evening depending on where you are)!

While I am a blogger with no intention on moving to YouTube (she says), I do watch a lot of YouTubers in my free time and today I am going to share with you a few of my new discoveries.  This doesn’t mean they are new channels, it’s just that I started watching them now. So, what do I look for when I watch a Beauty/ fashion channel?

I like watching makeup reviews, hauls and 1st impressions. I also like fashion and shopping. I want detailed descriptions, humour and some ‘passion’ cause if the YouTuber talks like a robot, I get bored!

So, enough with the intro. Let’s move to the YouTubers I have discovered recently. Let’s share the YouTube love.

Jessica Braun

I have been watching Jessica’s videos for a few weeks now and I really like the way she reviews products. She is very eloquent and analytic in the way she describes products. She tries drugstore and high end products. Extra points: She’s a teacher!! (Gotta support fellow teachers).

Arabella Golby

Beautiful vlogging style. Love the English accent and her girlie/ chic style. Do check out this video. She is lovely.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY8kWpQXF0Y

Fancy That with Candice

Another beauty YouTuber who is a teacher (yes, there is a pattern). She uploads lots of reviews and is also very detailed in her description of products.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOAtfEabQN0

The Sheer Luxe Channel

This channel is a channel that shows clothes, makeup, fashion trends etc. I love their hauls. Haven’t been a subscriber for long, but I am really enjoying their videos and I do get loads of shopping ideas which ain’t good when I am in spendy mood (or is it?).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKx3rTvLhpU

Beauty Broadcast with Emily Noel 83

Great reviews. I am really enjoying the holiday beauty product hauls/ reviews. Again, very informative.

So, that’s all for now. If you want to check out my older post with other YouTube channel suggestions, press here.

That’s all for now. Happy Sunday everyone!!

How I made $52 & got 2 Free Books & Stationery after 1 Year of Blogging

Catchy title, huh? borderline sarcy I would say. So lovelies, today’s post is about my blog’s wins. A success story. Or is it? Well, that depends on if you are a glass half full, half empty person. Anyways, every day on Pinterest and other social media, you read posts about

how I made $1000, $10.000, a billion, a zillion dollars after a month, ten minutes  or a second of blogging….

AND How you can do the same……

Well, that ain’t my case. I have been an educational blogger for almost 4 years and a ‘beauty/lifestyle’ blogger for one year. Yeap. I enjoyed blogging so much that I had to have 2 blogs.

Untitledmonetising from your blog.jpg

So have you made it?

Well, first of all, define ‘made it’. Secondly, how does one measure ‘made it’? From my blog’s title, you do realise that I have made ‘something’. So, full disclosure.

Moneywise: $52 from Amazon and sponsored posts

Productwise: 2 books, Planner stickers, Stationery, Free makeup samples (but not more than let’s say 10 products).

I have also expanded my affiliate branding.

A BIG beauty brand will be featuring my blog post in their newsletter (I will boast more about that when it actually happens. I tend to jinx myself so 😡 :x).

Almost 24.000 page views and 200 blog followers (people actually reading and following are the biggest win!).

So, let’s be a glass half full kind of person. Let’s not treat my “blogging” like it’s a joke cause it hasn’t made money.  Let’s treat it like a hobby and maybe a bit more………

You see, I was/ am a wannabe writer, but because I do not have: the eneergy, braincell power, money to get an agent ( I am a teacher. Teachers are underpaid), an actual book idea, I blog. Prolifically. I actually wrote my first book when I was 9 and it was about a girl who had a freind who was a robot. Then the robot’s head fell off and she fixed him. I know. Weird!

When I write/ blog, I feel good (just like the song says). That feeling  cannot be monetised because I get to write 500 word articles about anything and everything.I get to talk about makeup which I love, travelling, books and other random thoughts that pop into this (my) 40 year-old head. I have fun.

And if you are making a ton of money and rolling your eyes thinking that I am naive or that after a year of blogging , I should have more to show for myself, I reply,

Maybe you are right

Would I like my hobby to give me more opportunities? Sure.

BUT

I am content with what’s happened so far. I mean, com’on. A colour blind beauty blogger? Mind boggling to say the least.

So, yeah, if you are like me, just stay calm and keep blogging (originality….. I know).

Changing my Blogging Style: starting with the WHY

I love writing. Always have. This is why I have two blogs and am writing blog posts which do or do not get read. It’s my creative outlet. It’s my hobby. It makes me happy, sometimes sad as well. It allows me to show you who I am. Who I really am. Is that why you write?

Because I am a teacher, I am also very interested in writing styles and I want to take up courses that will help me improve as a blogger/writer.The other day I watched a TED talk by Sinek in my class (I will link the TED talk below) and it talked about inspiring others and why people connect with brands/ people.

Branding.jpg

He talked abut the golden circle. Imagine three circles. One in the other. The inner circle has the word WHY in it, the next circle has the word HOW, and the outer circle the word WHAT. Now, according to Sinek, people buy a product when you tell them why you make it, then how, and finally, what it is.

Now let’s look at writing. If you try to to transfer that to your writing style, you start with why you are saying something and then you move on to how and what.

Let’s take for example a beauty product, I am trying to connect with my readers by saying why I like lipsticks and this particular X lipstick, how I used it and then the information about the product. The What. You can see an example of this writing style in my Aveda haul or even this post. I started with the why…..

This makes sense to me. As a reader I can connect to the WHY, so why not start with it? Don’t know how long my blog posts will be written in that kind of way, but  am trying it out. What do you think?

If you enjoyed what you read, do subscribe to my blog. We can also connect on social media. Click on the ones you use and connect with me 🙂  Pinterest / Twitter/ Instagram/Google+.

Simon Sinek’s video can be found on YouTube. It is called” Start with the why”

Reality vs. expectations

One of my favourite scenes is the split screen scene in 500 days of summer. If you haven’t watched it yet, you need to. It’s actually one of my favourite romantic movies.

I have been thinking quite a lot for the past few days about how expectations can be great or high or how you can have none or low. As a cynic, I am more on the no/ low expectations side of the spectrum, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. In romance we tend to build someone up, expect a lot, day dream, have little hearts float out of our eyes like a cartoon character, and then get struck by the reality that, “well, em, he’s alright”. The latter is actually a good case scenario. The worst case scenario is getting hurt because our expectations did not become our reality and our hopes are just shattered.

But why do we have so many high expectations? Why is it that when you first meet someone you think, “He’s perfect. I want to make babies now” and then the bubble bursts or we fall off the pink cloud. Reality hits us and we realise that he is just a boy and we are just a girl.

My philosophy is expect shit and it can only be better. That way,

When you go on a first date, you don’t feel that nervous.

When he doesn’t call, you do not have a panic attack.

When the first kiss, is not what you expected, it’s all good.

When you have no expectations, it can only be better.

Now you may ask, ” C’mon expect the worst, for better to come?”

Hell yeah!!That’s my philosophy and mine alone. I ain’t here to persuade you that I have the answer to matters of the heart, cause I do not. This is my blog, so I say my thoughts. The comments section is where you get to say your thoughts and can tell me off if you wish to.

So, back to my ode to expecting nothing in order to get something. I think that in today’s society we expect romance and love to be perfect. It isn’t. We expect to meet the one. And he does not exist. In my mind, there are many ones and those ones come around at different times and if you miss the momentum then tough. We read magazines about what our significant other should do. What is acceptable and what unacceptable. The ’10 things that show that he is Mr Perfect’ (Cosmo for the  young ones and Marie Claire/ Elle for the older ones. I am talking to you!). We watch romcoms that show men running to the air port in order to find the one. Going after ‘serendipity’ and serendipity actually happening. And yada, yada, yada. We create an atmosphere of ‘great’ expectations and then reality hits ya! So, yeah, next time you meet someone, keep the bar low. It can only get better. Do not expect the moon or the sun. Expect a ray and take an umbrella just in case!

A zillion words later, a blog post full of gibberish.

I am holding a giveaway, you may want to enter. You actually should if you read till the end of this post. Thanks for stopping by. I’d love to hear where you stand regarding expectations high/low or no……

Reality vs. expectation

Catch ya later.

To the Test: La Roche Posay Rosaliac AR Intense Serum (update)

So, I had said that I will revisit this product a while ago and I forgot to give you an update. So, what am I talking about? The La Roche Posay Rosaliac AR Intense Serum which is supposed to be great for reducing redness. .So how is it working for me? Well, I stopped using it for two reasons:

L'orac

Reason 1

I went to the skin doctor and I do have Rosacea and no cream will get rid of my redness. I will probably get the spots of my face with some kind of laser treatment.

What is Rosacea?

Well, redness of the face and according to the National Rosacea Society symptoms are:

  • Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead.
  • Small visible blood vessels on the face.
  • Bumps or pimples on the face.
  • Watery or irritated eyes.

I actually have sensitive skin, redness on the cheeks (close to the eyes), and watery eyes.

Reason 2

The package broke in my makeup bag whilst I was travelling and I stopped using it. The packaging is definitely a fail especially as there is no cap.I can still use the product but it squirts out of the side and it is kinda disgusting.

So, there is my update. You can read the original post that prompted this one by clicking here.
