#Blogmas Day 5: A lot of something(s)

Blogmas logo

So, today I am going to share with you a few something(s) I did, bought, read and so on today.

Something I did

I got my hair done. Dark blonde with lighter highlights. I am set for the holidays.

Something I bought

Yeap, pay day was a few days ago and I went to H& M (again). I got a sweater, some Christmas-y earrings, a ponpon for my bag and a pink shimmer dust ( I did not need this, but it looks great on my vanity).

20151205_192744.jpg

Something I read

Did you know that people are drawn to glitter because of our innate need to search for water (water/streams have a shine to them)? Did you know that Xmas is written  with an X because of the Greek word Χριστός  which means Christ and starts with an X? I have found a website called mental floss which I really enjoy reading. It is full of random and unnecessary info, but I ❤ reading it. Check it out here.

Something I know

Who won America’s next top model (well technically I don’t know yet, but by the time I hit publish I will know).

Ok gotta go now!!

See you tomorrow. Feel free to tell me what you did today. Remember to follow this blog or connect with me on Twitter or Instagram (@mypinkrambles).Thanks for storrping by ❤

See you tomorrow!!

KIKO MILANO makeup (mini) haul and reviews

Last weekend I was in Barcelona and while I was walking around I saw a KIKO MILANO store, so I decided to go in especially since I can’t get KIKO MILANO products at home (except if I shop online).

Makeup.jpg

What did I get?

Nail polish

I bought 2 sparkly (pearly) nail polishes. One is fuchsia with pink glitter and the other one is blue with green glitter (yes, I know that sounds kinda weird, but they are pretty colours). The bottles say number 502 and 530.

Mini review:

The pink one looks fine with just one coat (I opted for 2 though). The blue one needs two coats. They were great value for money (they were on sale, so mine cost 1.90 euros each!) and they don’t chip.

I love KIKO MILANO nail polish. They don’t go off in the bottle either. I have a nail polish I got 2 years ago and it is still in great condition.

Mascara

I got the Extra Sculpt Waterproof Mascara in black. It cost 8.90 euros.

Mini review:

I was really excited to try this product. My first attempt was a disaster. The wand is huge and I could not go into the lashes like I usually do. I smudged it everywhere, but even though I smudged it and I looked like a panda bear, I thought I’d give it another shot. So I did. This time I used half of the wand and applied it extra carefully. Slow motions. I ❤ the way it looked in the end. BUT I will never apply it if I am in a rush, it takes a lot of time to get it right, and you need to be very careful. The wand also has a lot of product on it, so you need to make sure you have only the amount you need. It also needs some time to dry. Would I recommend buying it? If you are on a budget and a bit clumsy with mascara, then no. If you like trying new things, then yes, because it does make your lashes stand out. Seriously. I was in love with the result (after the 2nd attempt).

Lip product

I got the KIKO MILANO Lip relief. This is a product that is supposed to hydrate your lips. This is promoted as an intensive stick.

Mini review:

My lips needed a bit of hydration. They felt dry so I grabbed this product. It has an SPF 15.  It feels like any other lip balm. Yes, it’s nourishing and it leaves a very subtle shine, which is nice. The packaging is really pretty. Sure, I’d repurchase this one. It did what it was supposed to do.

Feel free to leave a comment below regarding your favourite KIKO MILANO products. Remember to follow this blog (check out the side bar on ways to do that). Keep in mind, I am a teacher, not a makeup artist. I review products the same way I would review them if I were talking to my friends about a new product I bought! This is not a sponsored post. I purchased everything with my own money. Thanks for reading!

So, that’s for now.

What did I get from H&M? Makeup, a knit and some bling

Last Friday was payday. Yeap, yeap. And Jo (that’s me) was a happy shopper. I had spent the previous evening catching up on my favourite YouTubers  who were talking about makeup and all that jazz, so I decided I’d go to H&M and see what all the fuss about the new makeup line was. I went to the H&M store in my town and started looking around. I did a bit of damage, but not tooooooo much. So what did I get?

Makeup

I got a couple of stuff. I bought two cream eye shadows; one is called Shy Violet (light purple) and the other one is called Countess (gold/brown-ish). I also got a blusher in the colour apricot and a lipstick called Fareham Brick (burgundy). All the colour descriptions are based on what other people say, cause I am colour blind and always need help when I am getting makeup, especially since makeup companies, H&M included, insist on giving makeup colours random names instead of calling it burgundy! Welcome to my world :(.

makeup with colour

Mini -review: The lipstick stays on for quite a while, but you do need to have it with you to reapply, especially if you eat or drink something. The eye creams don’t crease or budge. It actually took a while to take off. They do have a bit of fall out though. At least Countess does.  The blusher is kinda ‘weak’ . Don’t know how I feel about it yet.

Bling

I got two necklaces which I might even layer.

HM22

Blouse

I got a polka dot knit. It is nice and soft. The back is a bit longer than the front and there is also a little zipper in the back. It looks really nice.

20151104_090108

And because I like to be practical here are the tags of the Polka dot blouse and the two cream eye shadows. You can ask the people in H&M to  tell you where these items are (the 1st tag is for the knit. The other two are for the necklaces).

UntitleH&M Tags

I paid about 70 euros for everything. Knit was 20, necklaces around 12 and the rest was on the makeup.

Oh! Do follow/subscribe to my blog if you enjoyed this post. Give it a thumbs up (aka ‘like’) if you liked it. Let me know in the comments section below if you have tried the makeup or anything else I shared with you today. So, that’s all lovelies!! Happy shopping  ❤

Product Review: The Body Shop’s Tea Tree facial wash

Today I will be reviewing the Body shop’s Tea Tree facial wash.

According to the Body Shop website, this facial wash:

  • removes oil without making the skin too dry
  • helps give a healthy-looking skill

tea tree

What’s my Response to that?

It does remove excess oil and it is not drying (this comes from someone who has a sensitive skin). I cannot say if it makes my skin look healthier or not because I have good skin anyways.

My Opinion

Texture

After you shake the bottle for a bit and press the little pump, the product comes out in a foam form which is very light. It’s not a greasy foam. It feels more like bubbles than anything else.

Scent

It smells like an antibacterial cleanser, like you are at the dentist’s.

How does it feel?

When you wash your face with it, you do feel woken up and clean. I often use this when I have had a rough night and water is not enough to wake me up! It also makes your skin feel cleaner and breathing! If yur skin feels a bit oily, this reduces that feeling.

What does it do to my skin?

I have sensitive/combination skin with a tendency to dry. This is not an exfoliating product, so I do use it quite often. It does deter zits and spots, but I wouldn’t say it is a pharmaceutical product that treats acne or anything like that.

Will I repurchase?

I am on my second bottle (it is long-lasting), so, yes.

What did I get from M & S? An itsy bitsy haul

I am going to Barcelona in November and will be presenting at a conference, so I was looking for something nice and serious (it’s a teacher conference). So, I went to Marcs and Spencer. I bought 3 blouses (all thin woolen) and I am sharing them here with you today in case you are looking for something similar.

Zigzag top

It is a long blouse (it goes below the bum. Am I allowed to say bum in a blog post? :p) and it is low cut in the front, so you probably need to wear something on the inside. I am going to pair it with a nice necklace and then I am sorted for outfit number one.

stripes

Black blouse

Now, the picture is not doing this one any justice. The lace details on the side and the fact that the back of the blouse is of another material (like a shirt) is what made me buy this one. And anyway, you always need a black blouse, don’t you?

black top

Bright Orange blouse

I thought a nice pop of colour would look great, so I got this. It is a nice soft wool and something I will definitely get a lot of wear out of.

cropped orange

Now because I like to be practical, I have taken a picture of the codes of these tops, so if you like them or want to check them out, all you need to do is show the tag and a lovely lady at M & S will help you find it.

Stationery Haul

I am a teacher and as a teacher I use a lot of stationery.  Buying stationery is like being like a kid in a candy shop for me. Now that I am really into decorative planning, I have gone bananas with the stationery. So, in today’s post, I am going to try something different. I am going to share with you and review what I bought from my favourite bookshop in the UK, Waterstones. I  ❤ Waterstones.

What did I get?

James and friends pencil-case

It’s so cute. Because I am a blogger as well, I thought, I gotta get this pencil-case and I did. It is plastic (good plastic not softie plastic) and see through, which is great, cause I get to see where my pencils and pens are. Waterstones price: £6.99. I ❤ blogging and now I have a pencil-case that reminds me to blog :).

Botanical Sticker & Labels

They are lovely labels and stickers. It’s from a company called Rifle paper Co. There are 30 sheets of vintage style label stickers and I think they are really pretty. Beautiful packaging.

Sicker quality: the paper is quite thick and it sticks easily on paper. It is also quite easy to take off if you make a mistake. It doesn’t tear your paper (my planner has thick paper and that’s what I have tested these stickers on).

Waterstones price £7.99. *You can get it from Amazon for $8.91 by pressing here.

3D Butterfly Sticky notes

Post-it notes are boring, but these ones look really pretty. You can stick quite a bit on your paper and then pull up the wings, so it actually look like a butterfly on your notes (sheets). If you use them in a book or a notebook, then the butterfly will get squashed (still functions as a post-it note though). There are three colours: yellow, blue and pink. For more information about this product go to the company’s website http://www.suck.uk.com. (yeap, that’s the name of the company :p  ). At Waterstones they cost £ 3.99. *You can also buy it now  by pressing here. (Amazon price $6.17).

Get the hint- Wish list advisory tags

These are like sticky notes you use to tag things. I use them when I am planning and I also use them to tag stuff in magazines, especially now that I am a blogger. It is helpful to remember where you saw things. Tags say: I want this/ Love these/Buy this/ And this/ Yes please. There are 20 sheets per tag. Tags are made of thick-ish paper. Half is adhesive paper (sticky paper), the rest sticks out. You can find this product at npw.co.uk or npw-usa.com. * You can also press here and get it now (Amazon price: $6.27 at the moment of this post).

I want stickers

So, I am sorted for the time being. I got my pretty stationery and I am ready to blog, plan and shop. This was my ode to pretty stationery. ❤  ❤

Review: Korres Wild Rose Brightening Exfoliating Cleanser

I like buying facial washes and exfoliating creams. Today, my first ever product review is of a Greek product (cause I am Greek), and I am going to talk about the Korres wild rose brightening exfoliating cleanser (buff cleanser).

According to the Korres website (direct quote):

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
A gentle exfoliating cleanser for daily use that regenerates the skin and provides effective, soap free cleansing and brightening action, without dehydrating the skin.

KEY INGREDIENTS
Natural exfoliating grains derived from Rice seeds and Cherry stones cleanse from dead skin cells, impurities and excess sebum.Wild Rose oil is a natural source of vitamin C, which demonstrates significant repairing activity to skin colour disorders, imparting brightness and radiance to the skin    www.Korres.com

Rose wild pic

My opinion

Texture: How does it feel?

When you apply it, you can feel the little grains. Just to give you a sense of how it feels, imagine scrubbing a few small-sized grains of sand on your face (sparsely poured into a cream). The smell is a mixture of a nice soap and rose of course. It is very easy to apply because it is very creamy. You do not need a lot to apply to the whole face. I did not scrub it harshly onto my skin. Just a gentle scrub.

Rinsing

It is easy to rinse off. No residue remains on your face. You don’t need to wash your face 10 times to get it off.

After use, what did it do to my face?

First let’s talk about my skin type. I would say it is combination with a tendency to dry and very sensitive. I don’t have acne.

The effect of the cleanser on my face? It is supposed to brighten it. I think it does a bit. It also makes a bit of redness stand out, but I was expecting that because it is an exfoliating cleanser and my skin always goes a bit red when I exfoliate. Your skin feels clean and like it is breathing. It is definitely a good way to wake up. The scent stays with you for a while.

One hour later: I can still smell the nice rosy smell. The redness has gone away.

Would you use it every day?

No, not for my skin type (dry/sensitive). I think it would be too harsh. I would use it two times a week.

Packaging

Thick plastic. Good cap. White and red.

Would I repurchase?

Yes. It is a bit pricey, but worth the splurge.

* If you are in the US and want to check out this product (it is also called a buff cleanser), press here Korres wild rose exfoliating cleanser

You can also find Korres products in stores like: Sephora (US), TK Maxx and in Debenhams (UK). In Greece, you find them at the pharmacy (the price in Greece is much cheaper).

This is the first time I am ever reviewing a product. I am a teacher, not a beautician or skin product expert. I am talking to you about this product like I would talk to my friends. Makeup brushes for newbie-oldies (like me)

Let me start by saying I am not a beauty guru, nor do I know that much about makeup and makeup brushes. You see, I am an English teacher and an educational blogger (for the past two years-the blogger bit, the teacher bit has been foreva 🙂 ). BUT…..  I do  ❤  me makeup though, and I did buy makeup brushes, so why not write a post about them? That’s what this blog is all about, isn’t it? And anyway, brushes can be so overwhelming. I am gonna make it simple, and tell you what has worked for me.

Brush purchasing history

I started off by buying brushes and sponges (or blenders as they call them now) when I was young. I then started watching YouTubers reviewing brushes. My favourite YouTubers for reviewing stuff are Lilly Pebbles and MsGoldgirl (if you press their names, you will see them reviewing makeup brushes). So, I did my research and I am now an informed brush buy-er! I am actually going to share with you lovely ladies (who were/are clueless in terms of makeup brushes, like me) what works for me, the beauty dummy.

My extremely basic (affordable) brush collection

M.A.C 2,17 (natural hair). I use this to apply my cream eye makeup

Real techniques makeup brushes (synthetic bristles – the old version, not the silver ones) The foundation brush to apply my foundation, and the stippling brush to squash it on my skin and it helps avoid having brush ‘streaks’ on my face.

Sephora blush brush and Sephora powder brush (synthetic bristles). Both are nice and fluffy and I use them accordingly.

Let’s talk about money

These brushes range from 15-22 euros. If you are in the UK, M.A.C is more expensive than in Europe, but Real technique brushes are reasonably priced and you can always find a deal at Boots or Superdrug. If you are in Europe like me, you can find Real Techniques kits on Amazon. Sephora is everywhere (except the UK, but you can order online if you are in the UK).

Now on to the good part

Washing the brushes. I dunno why, but when I was younger, I used to just chuck the brush when it got filthy (yucky-looking). I also thought the fairy makeup brush wash-er would come and take them, and wash them (fairy a.k.a my mum). Now, I actually wash em. Yeap. I put them in the sink in some warm-ish water, put some shampoo, and leave them in there for a while. I sometimes add a bit of makeup remover as well, just to get the extra gunk off them (I know, my brushes sound really inviting), and then I wash them with cold water. According to my hair dresser, it’s better to rinse off your hair with cold-ish water, so if makeup brushes are made of natural hair then… cold water it is.

To be a bit more serious, while I am not a makeup artist, or someone who knows makeup like the back of their hand, brushes do make a difference. Using your fingers to apply makeup up is not a grand idea cause whatever you have touched goes on your face! Spend a bit of money on your brushes. Do your research. Whatever it takes to make us look prettier.

If you are a makeup guru and have a comment or so, please do leave a comment. Follow me and please share if you enjoy my posts (my new blog needs some TLC).

Check out www.myeltrambles.com if you are a teacher ( I know what I am talking about over there 😛 ).
