How do you plan your blog posts?

It is Saturday morning and I am sitting in front of my computer, planning my blog posts, looking at my stats, and setting blog/blogger goals.

My planning

Before I invest in a bloggers planner, which looks very pretty and is on my wish list, I thought I would try to see if I will stick to planning posts and trying to promote my blog. At the moment, I am more of a wannabe beauty and lifestyle blogger than anything else. I have a zillion of blog post ideas, I have been signing up for all sorts of social media applications and widgets, but I have no idea if I will be able to pull through with a full-time job (English teacher) and a second blog (yes, I am also an educational blogger, have been for 3 years actually. Check that out here). So, after this long ramble, I am getting to the point of today’s post. Planning.

What did I plan?

I used my Teneues planner and went to the notes page at the end of the planner. I then used a few stickers from FruVesasPrintables to make the page more pretty. One page was dedicated to blog posts I want to write in October, and the other to blog data and statistics.

Details

On one page, I wrote down all my blog post ideas (posts that are already in draft form and others that are ideas). I also wrote down the week I want them to be ready and published. The second page has details about my page views, my most popular post, where I get traffic from, followers on my blog and social media followers. I also have my goals for October. I have a section for the money I made from my blog (nothing so far :p).

Troubles: what on earth am I doing?

I really need to understand Pinterest cause at the moment that’s my most neglected site. I also am wondering whether I should mention in my About page when I publish what. Something like a preview. What about my header? Should I invest in it and get someone to make a proper one (logo)? Do I move to self-hosted website or should I wait and see how I go? I need to work on my photo- taking skills as well. What about a giveaway? How will I set it up? When do I do it? Now or later on?

Trying to juggle a lot of things. Let’s see how that works. At the moment, things are going well.

Oh! By the way, how do you plan your blog posts? Any ideas? Any suggestions? Leave a comment in the section below.

I am leaving with a song that adds sound to my troubled thoughts cause i luv me some drama as well.

Shabby Chick Crafts: Etsy store owner Interview

Hi Jenny, let me start by saying that I love, love, love your stickers. So, let’s start this chat.

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I am a born Miami (Cuban girl) Who loves her Seminoles! I am a stay at home mom, with one little boy and two lab dog babies. I was originally on a career path that I loved every minute of. I was a safety manager for a renewable energy company that built wind turbine parks across the US. My husband is still in the renewable energy sector! I miss my job but I like my new adventure.
How and why did you start making stickers (tell me about your journey in planner/stickersville)?
I actually started making stickers for myself because I had purchased a ECLP and really could not make it work for me. I stumbled across some IG accounts with awesome layouts and I already had a cameo because I do some vinyl orders and I just started experimenting!

What inspires you?

I  have always been a crafty person so I love seeing people use my products and love them! I feel better when I am creating!
What can someone find at your Etsy store?
Right now in the shop we have lots of “pre cut” washi as well as samples and a wide variety of planner accessories such as stickers, tassels and planner bands. I also offer really cute planner buddy kits that are a surprise combination each time!

If you could turn back time to the day you opened your store, what advice would you give yourself? Any top tips?
I did not start on etsy with planner related items, my shop evolved that way. I would tell myself not to give up ! It took me a full year and then a little to get up over 1,000 orders and lots of trial and error to see what worked best ! I do wish I would have fallen into the planner world much sooner 🙂

OK, so, now let’s move on to planning.  How do you plan?

I am the WORST planner, I need to plan when I do plan I feel better and I get more done! It is making the time to plan that gets me. I use lots of stickers but I also leave lots of white space, I am not one to cover every inch of white space. I like to put sticky notes on future dates so that I do not forget stuff, but I really do most of my planning on a day-to-day basis.
Connecting with you
Where can people find you? Well, at www.shabbychickcrafts.etsy.com ( our own website is in the works) IG @shabbychickcrafts

Stationery Haul

I am a teacher and as a teacher I use a lot of stationery.  Buying stationery is like being like a kid in a candy shop for me. Now that I am really into decorative planning, I have gone bananas with the stationery. So, in today’s post, I am going to try something different. I am going to share with you and review what I bought from my favourite bookshop in the UK, Waterstones. I  ❤ Waterstones.

What did I get?

James and friends pencil-case

It’s so cute. Because I am a blogger as well, I thought, I gotta get this pencil-case and I did. It is plastic (good plastic not softie plastic) and see through, which is great, cause I get to see where my pencils and pens are. Waterstones price: £6.99. I ❤ blogging and now I have a pencil-case that reminds me to blog :).

Botanical Sticker & Labels

They are lovely labels and stickers. It’s from a company called Rifle paper Co. There are 30 sheets of vintage style label stickers and I think they are really pretty. Beautiful packaging.

Sicker quality: the paper is quite thick and it sticks easily on paper. It is also quite easy to take off if you make a mistake. It doesn’t tear your paper (my planner has thick paper and that’s what I have tested these stickers on).

Waterstones price £7.99. *You can get it from Amazon for $8.91 by pressing here.

3D Butterfly Sticky notes

Post-it notes are boring, but these ones look really pretty. You can stick quite a bit on your paper and then pull up the wings, so it actually look like a butterfly on your notes (sheets). If you use them in a book or a notebook, then the butterfly will get squashed (still functions as a post-it note though). There are three colours: yellow, blue and pink. For more information about this product go to the company’s website http://www.suck.uk.com. (yeap, that’s the name of the company :p  ). At Waterstones they cost £ 3.99. *You can also buy it now  by pressing here. (Amazon price $6.17).

Get the hint- Wish list advisory tags

These are like sticky notes you use to tag things. I use them when I am planning and I also use them to tag stuff in magazines, especially now that I am a blogger. It is helpful to remember where you saw things. Tags say: I want this/ Love these/Buy this/ And this/ Yes please. There are 20 sheets per tag. Tags are made of thick-ish paper. Half is adhesive paper (sticky paper), the rest sticks out. You can find this product at npw.co.uk or npw-usa.com. * You can also press here and get it now (Amazon price: $6.27 at the moment of this post).

I want stickers

So, I am sorted for the time being. I got my pretty stationery and I am ready to blog, plan and shop. This was my ode to pretty stationery. ❤  ❤

Feeling like a Unicorn (a day in the life of a colour blind gal)

Today, I am going to revisit the topic of colourblindness. I have already talked about people’s reactions to my saying that I am colourblind and now I will give you a glimpse of my life.

According to the colourblindawareness.org 1 out of 12 males and 1 out of 200 females are colour blind. They also use the hashtag #1ineveryclassroom that means that there is probably one colourblind student in every class.

Being colour blind does not mean you cannot see colours (seeing black and white is really rare), it just means you may not be able to see some colours and shades. I am not going to go into medical details though because

  1. I am not a doctor and
  2. that’s not what this post is about.

I am partially colour blind and today, I will try to give you a glimpse of what my life is like. So, how big a deal is it to not be able to see colours? Let’s see.

Walk in my red (?) pumps, will ya?

My life

Shopping

Clothes: As a 39-year-old gal, shopping is challenge. I am unable to shop 90% of the time!! I have no idea what colour the clothes I buy are. I always ask a sales assistant for help or I choose to shop from stores that have the colour written on the tag. If none of these are an option, then I end up buying something that turns out to be a random colour, I then I go back to the store and return it (story of my life)

Makeup is an ordeal. I luv makeup, but I can’t really buy it. Most companies choose to name their products not based on what colour they are but based on a catchy title. What do I mean? Cosmetics companies choose to give weird names to their eye shadows, nail varnish and lip sticks. Why does a pink lip stick need to be called “A day in the park” or “love me do” (names chosen randomly) and not just say: Pink/ light pink/ dark pink/ fuchsia etc.? You may ask, ”Yes, but you do not see it’s pink, so what you going on about woman?” Well, yeah, I don’t see it’s pink, but I know what pink goes with!! The same goes for nail varnish. Once again, I ask for help, or buy egg yellow eye shadows and end up returning them.

Food: It is very difficult to go grocery shopping cause I cannot distinguish if the fruit or vegetable is too ripe. I have bought loads of green bananas. I never know if potatoes have turned poisonous or not (you are not supposed to eat them when they are green. It’s actually a miracle I haven’t had potato… poisoning yet).

Reading Magazines

Loads of magazines, newspapers and even books choose to write a text on a background that clashes, making it extremely or almost impossible for me to read. Black on red is the worst!

Going to the bank

You know the electronic display that shows priority in banks? I cannot read that. I take a ticket, wait in a line, and then ask a person to help me and tell me what number is next. Do you know how many times I missed my turn back in the days when I felt embarrassed to ask for help?

Driving

I don’t drive. I think I will have a problem with road signs more than actual traffic lights. I have never tried to learn to drive. Never will (I don’t think this is cause I am colour blind. I think this one is more cause I am too scared cause of general eye sight problems).

Using websites

I often have trouble using websites because when I want to change colour or choose something based on the colour I cannot. Why? Well, if you look at Word, for example, and you want to change font colour when you press the colour boxes, they say what colour it is (as in the name of the colour). On many websites though you see lots of coloured boxes, but when you put your pointer on them, the name of the colour does not pop up (like in Word). So, I am in the dark. I also have difficulty reading the Skype phone number on various pages because it is in a very light colour on a light coloured background.

Instructions

Following any type of instructions that is based on colours is hard. Take out the lilac book, follow the green line, open the pink door (which is the ladies’ room). Then there’s the tube. I never travel on the London tube alone. So many colours mixed up on a little map.

Pie charts/tables and graphs

They are very difficult to read because people use similar colours when they make them. I had difficulty watching the Greek election results the other day cause the ‘election’ map had green and blue all over. I have difficulty seeing the difference.

For 39 years I have lived without ‘seeing’ colours. I manage fine. Does it make my life difficult? Yes. Impossible? No. I ask people for help and they help.  I often get upset though. Being colour blind does not hold me back. I would like it if people/companies/organisations were a bit more considerate though. Please help us with colours. Why does my title have the term unicorn in it? A lovely girl on twitter (Becca) said that I am like a unicorn cause colour blindness in rare….. that’s a magical way to put it ❤

Product Reveiw: Sally Hansen Insta Dri Top Coat

In today’s post I am going to review  a product that I really love (<3) and has changed the look of my nails! For many years I have been searching for a top coat that actually dries quickly and now I have found it!What is this miravle top coat? The Sally Hansen Insta Dri Top Coat.

According to the Sally Hansen website, this product is described as:

  • quick dry
  • chip resistant
  • a nail varnish that can be applied on any nail varnish and dries in a few seconds. It also has a UV filter which protects the nail polish colour.

My Opinion

Why is top coat so important for you?

I wear compressive (orthopedic stockings) which means that when I paint my nails I need something that dries quickly otherwise when I have to move my compressive stockings slightly, the nail varnish gets messed up. I have had my nails done professionally and have tried all different types of quick drying nail varnishes, but I haven’t been happy until now! Seriously I can’t stress how happy I am with this top coat! This is heavy-duty top coat!!

So, how fast does this dry?

Very quickly. I wouldn’t say a few seconds, but definitely after 5-7 minutes you can do anything!! I have been saved. No matter what nail varnish I use underneath when I use the Insta dri top coat, it dries.

Does it shine?

Yes, but not shine in your face. Just a bit.

Does it chip?

After two days of mild water usage, yes it chips. I reapply though and all is good.

Does it wreck my main nail varnish when I apply it?

Nope. It actually makes my colour nail polishes look more smooth.

Does it protect my nails?

It makes your nails stronger, yes, but that may also be because you have already applied base coat, nail varnish and top coat.

Would I repurchase?

Definitely yes. I have already stocked up.

Where can I find this product?

Everywhere. I got one from Boots  and a second one in TK Maxx (UK). I know there are Sally Hansen products in Sephora as well (at least in Greece).

*You can also buy it on Amazon by pressing here. Amazon sells it for $5.27 (at the moment of this post).

This week’s planner spread starting Sep 27th

So, for this week’s spread I used the free printables I got from Vintage Glam Studio.I used the Planner Quote stickers. Her stickers are so pretty and i suggest you check them out! I don’t have an ECLP yet, so I use these stickers and adjust the size to fit the dimensions of my Teneues planner.

What’s on each page?

I wrote everything I want to get done on the weekly day page. On the notes page I wrote down longer sentences and mostly things I have to get done for work (teacher) and my blog post ideas.

I always check what I wrote down in my previous week’s spread and if I didn’t do something, I move it to the next week spread.

Correct pic

My Goals

This week’s main goal is to ride my stationary bike as much as possible and catch up on my reading. I also have a lot of research to do cause I am going to a conference in November and need to find articles to support the points I will be making during my presentation.

DIY stickers

DIY stickers are a great affordable solution and the Vintage Glam studio has loads of spreads to download. Cutting the stickers is a bit hard but luckily I am not a perfectionist so if something is a bit crooked that ois OK.

I also used 3D stickers and happy faces.

If you are looking to buy an Eric Condren planner, I have a $10 off offer for you guys if you purchase the planner by pressing the words $10 off my ELCP below (this is a referral link).

Liebster Award nomination

I have been an educational blogger for about 3 years now, and I love it. I decided to make a second blog because I also like talking about beauty, fashion and planning, so my pink rambles were born. Two week after launching my blog, I read Ann from Mani on the move ‘s comment.  I had been nominated for a Liebster award! Yay! A few days later I got a second nomination!! Double yay! 🙂 .This is really exciting, so here is my Liester nomination acceptance post. But first,  what is a Liebster award? Well, as Ann says, ” It’s a shout out from bloggers to bloggers”.

If you want to accept the award, you have to:

  • Say thank you to the person who nominated and link their blog
  • Copy paste the Liebster badge on your post
  • Nominate 10 other bloggers with less than 200 followers
  • Answer the ten questions the person who nominated you asked, and then make ten more for the bloggers you nominate.
  • Nominate the 10 bloggers by leaving a comment on their blog.

So, here are Ann’s questions and my answers

1) What made you decided to start blogging?

I started edu-blogging as part of a way to reflect on my teaching and share my teaching ideas with colleagues. I started a more beauty and lifestyle oriented blog because I love pretty things and I want to write about them as well. I couldn’t do that in my educational blog.

2) Do you have a pet?
No pets.
3) What is your favorite holiday candy?
Easter eggs. Of course! Just keep the chocolate coming!! 🙂
4) What is your favorite holiday?
I love Christmas. I love the decorations. I enjoy buying presents for my friends and family. Everything looks more shiny during Christmas. I ❤ that!
5) What is your star sign?
Capricorn
6) What is your favorite tv show & why?
My favourite TV show is Suits, cause deep down, I always wanted to be a lawyer.
7) Who is your least favorite celebrity & why?
Hmmm. I don’t have a least favourite celebrity. I dislike politicians who think they are celebrities and in Greece we have loads of them.
8) What is your favorite song?
Secret Smile by Semi Sonic
9) When you are alone with no one else in the house, what is the first thing you do?
Blog (haha)
10) What was your least favorite blog post to write? Also post the link!
I don’t write blog posts that I don’t find interesting to write. I find it difficult to write blog posts that involve a lot of research. I have written many blog posts that took ages to write because I had to support my views. They are my least favourite because they take a lot of time. No other reason.
blogger-image--428608190
The bloggers I nominate (press the blog title to go to their website):
Janie from Paper Goose
Jessica from Cascadian Rhythm
Mak from Finding Mak
Samira from Mind ramble
Simone from Social Nubian
Kyah from Weekend Tempo

Now, here are the ten questions for the bloggers I nominated:

1. What’s your blogging style?
2. If you could turn back time and give your youngerself some advice, what would it be?
3. What’s your favorite colour?
4. If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would you go?
5. Describe a perfect Sunday?
6. What’s your favourite food?
7. If you could meet any ‘famous’ person, dead or alive, who would it be?
8.  What’s your favourite book?
9. Where are you from?
10. Coffee or tea?
Thanks very much Ann for nominating me. I look forward to reading my nominees posts .
Happy blogging everyone!!!

Featuring Michelle and Patch: Etsy store interview

Today I am featuring another Etsy store owner. I will be talking to Michelle from Michelle and Patch.

Interview

Hi Michelle,

I am really happy you agreed to this interview and let me just say that I ❤ your stickers!! So, let’s chat.

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
My name is Michelle, I have a degree in interior design and I am currently studying to become an Art and Design teacher. I love to eating, sleeping and watching Netflix.
How and why did you start making stickers?
I have always had the benefit of a planner, which, in the past I used purely to keep track of appointments. I began to use my planner and calendars more heavily as I was applying to university last year. I was juggling a part-time job, work experiences, interviews and a whole host of other things. My planner became scribbled with so many notes and changes that there were some days where I couldn’t read what I was supposed to be doing. As a result, I was at times forgetting or misreading the tasks I was meant to do. It was a planning method that just didn’t really work for me. It was on YouTube that I discovered the planning community and stickers.
After a bit of research, I ordered a few sticker sheets to try it out. It was a way of organising and planning that instantly clicked for me, it was clean, and instead of writing huge amounts to remind me of talks I needed to do, I could just look at a little picture.
When I went looking for more stickers to add to my collection however, a lot of shops didn’t have stickers that I would have really liked. Adding to that, most of the shops that had stickers I wanted were from America so it was a long wait time for stickers arriving, and the cost of shipping as well, as the actual stickers all added up to be quite a lot of money. It wasn’t quite within my budget.
I have always had an attitude of, “if I can’t afford to buy it, I will make it myself” and it’s what I did here. I illustrated a few of the icons I wanted for myself, transferred them onto the computer, printed and cut them out. At first, I only planned on using them for personal use, but people around me began to ask about them and eventually I put up my fist stickers on Etsy in May 2015.
What can someone find at your Etsy store?
You can find a variety of stickers for planners and journaling. Stickers range from functional to decorative. These include stickers for the everyday like grocery bags and post boxes or more fun sets like the Halloween set and the getting pretty set.
What are the advantages and what the disadvantages of having an Etsy store?
Advantages are that the shop is entirely within my control. If I have assignments coming up or a holiday, I can close the shop and reopen when I like. It’s a great opportunity to really create a brand, going all the way from a logo to the packaging. It’s also just a great experience of being your own boss and learning every aspect of running a small business. Through social media I am able to communicate with my customers easily and very quickly with shop notices about closures or updated shipping days etc.
Disadvantages are that you have to learn every aspect of running a business, I have to make sure that I price things correctly, so that what I charge covers the cost of my fees, material costs, postage and packaging and make sure that I have enough profit in order to keep my shop open. Having an Etsy shop also means that money is not consistent every week. Some weeks are incredibly busy! While other weeks are slightly quieter and it’s something you do need to keep an eye on, particularly when it comes to re-ordering supplies and you have to make sure you have enough to purchase more when you need to.
Now let’s talk about planning. How do you plan?
I usually plan once a week (usually on a Saturday or Sunday). I start with an undecorated page, which usually has a few sticky notes reminding me of what I have to remember to do on those days. I prefer using sticky notes as I can move them around without making a mess of my week and keep the page very clean and clear at all times. My planner is in a horizontal style and, when I start decorating, I usually split each day into 3 even sections with scrapbook paper and washi tape (I tend to be very decorative when it comes to planning). Once I have my basic layout, I use my stickers to indicate events that are definitely happening throughout the week. The rest of the individual days I fill in as I go or record at the end of the day.

Review: Korres Wild Rose Brightening Exfoliating Cleanser

I like buying facial washes and exfoliating creams. Today, my first ever product review is of a Greek product (cause I am Greek), and I am going to talk about the Korres wild rose brightening exfoliating cleanser (buff cleanser).

According to the Korres website (direct quote):

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
A gentle exfoliating cleanser for daily use that regenerates the skin and provides effective, soap free cleansing and brightening action, without dehydrating the skin.

KEY INGREDIENTS
Natural exfoliating grains derived from Rice seeds and Cherry stones cleanse from dead skin cells, impurities and excess sebum.Wild Rose oil is a natural source of vitamin C, which demonstrates significant repairing activity to skin colour disorders, imparting brightness and radiance to the skin    www.Korres.com

Rose wild pic

My opinion

Texture: How does it feel?

When you apply it, you can feel the little grains. Just to give you a sense of how it feels, imagine scrubbing a few small-sized grains of sand on your face (sparsely poured into a cream). The smell is a mixture of a nice soap and rose of course. It is very easy to apply because it is very creamy. You do not need a lot to apply to the whole face. I did not scrub it harshly onto my skin. Just a gentle scrub.

Rinsing

It is easy to rinse off. No residue remains on your face. You don’t need to wash your face 10 times to get it off.

After use, what did it do to my face?

First let’s talk about my skin type. I would say it is combination with a tendency to dry and very sensitive. I don’t have acne.

The effect of the cleanser on my face? It is supposed to brighten it. I think it does a bit. It also makes a bit of redness stand out, but I was expecting that because it is an exfoliating cleanser and my skin always goes a bit red when I exfoliate. Your skin feels clean and like it is breathing. It is definitely a good way to wake up. The scent stays with you for a while.

One hour later: I can still smell the nice rosy smell. The redness has gone away.

Would you use it every day?

No, not for my skin type (dry/sensitive). I think it would be too harsh. I would use it two times a week.

Packaging

Thick plastic. Good cap. White and red.

Would I repurchase?

Yes. It is a bit pricey, but worth the splurge.

You can also find Korres products in stores like: Sephora (US), TK Maxx and in Debenhams (UK). In Greece, you find them at the pharmacy (the price in Greece is much cheaper).

This is the first time I am ever reviewing a product. I am a teacher, not a beautician or skin product expert. I am talking to you about this product like I would talk to my friends. Please let me know what you think, is something missing? Do you like these kind of posts? Feel free to leave a comment.

So, you cannot ‘see’ colour….really?

I am partially colourblind. That means that I have difficulty distinguishing colours. I can see something is A colour, but I do not know what colour. To make matters worse, I fall in the low vision category which makes my vision and my ‘seeing’ colours even harder.

My question to you, my lovely reader is, ”have you ever thought how hard life is when you cannot distinguish colours?” From the most simple thing like buying a nail varnish to following the red line that leads to the X-Ray machine on the floor of a hospital. It’s tough.

In today’s post I am not going to focus on how colour affects my life. Nope. That will be in a later post. I am going to focus on people’s reactions to my saying I am partially colour blind.

Typical reaction

  • Really?

Some people respond to my saying I am colour blind by asking me, ” Really?”. This is the response I hate the most, because do you really think someone would make up being colour blind? I mean is it ha-ha funny?

  • So, what colour do you think this is?

My second (un)favourite response is, ” What colour do you think this is?” and to make matters worse, people start pointing at things and say, ” So, what’s this? And this? What colour do you think this is?” Why? Why do you need to know what colour I think something is, when there is an 80% chance (number chosen randomly), I will get it wrong?

  • Let’s yell

Another typical response is the ‘yellers’. These ones aren’t that bad. I have found myself being yelled at because someone thinks I cannot hear either. Even if you scream the colour at the top of your lung, I still ain’t gonna be able to ‘see’ it.

  • Oh! That’s so sad. You are missing out

Yeap, there are those who feel sorry for me. Don’t feel sorry for me mate. I am fine. I manage. Am i really missing out? I ‘see’ colour, just not the way you see it! Pointing out that I am missing out, is not really helping either. Stop making me feel bad about myself. Help me or ignore me, but don’t feel sorry for me.

  • The helpers

Luckily, there are people who do not judge or feel sorry for me. These are all the lovely ones, who say , ” OK! So this is a blue top or that is a brown bag, but it is not a nice brown so maybe you should go for that one”. They tell me what something is, and they give me advice. ❤ ❤ Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I am sorry this is a rant, I am trying to raise awareness. Next time someone says that they are colourblind, give them a helping hand….

1/12 men are colour blind and 1/200 females are colour blind. Check out colourblind awareness org’s website for more information.
