Five Friday Faves

Hi!!

I thought I’d share with you another Five Friday Faves post video. What is Five Friday Faves? Well, I talk about Five random things I have been loving. I talk about makeup, skincare, books, clothes and more.

So, let’s start.

1. Oasis

I love shopping from Oasis and I picked up two things during the sales; a bag and a top.

The bag has leather details, stripes, and a big bow. It has some pockets inside. It is a “chuck in everything bag”. I use mine to go shopping and stuff like that.

I also bought a lilac top. It is very lightweight material. The cute thing about it are the sleeves. They look like they are lace. So pretty.

2. Kefir Quark

I am a mac n’cheese kinda girl cause well it is quite hard to sustain this bod 😜. From time to time though, I slip off the unhealthy bandwagon and try something healthier. I bought my first (and not last) Kefir quark. I got it because I was looking for something good for my stomache (it is ideal if you are on antibiotics). I got the chia and raspberry flavour. It tastes a bit like a sour Greek yoghurt. It is thick and a bit sour. The seeds make it taste a bit yummier. I also add weetabix to mine and it makes a yummy filling brecki.

3. Olay Serum

So, full name is Olay anti-wrinkle 2 in 1 firm and lift booster and serum. It comes with a pump. It is a serum you can use before your moisturiser or under your makeup. It does plumpen up your skin. It is for women 40+. It does not break me out or sting. I usually wear it at night and in the morning my skin feels nice and soft.

4. Summer at Rose Island (by Holly Martin)

Time for some chick lit. Girl meets boy in a British UK seaside resort. There is a lighthouse. It has all that are essential for a big love story. I like it because it is funny and fast paced. A page turner coz it is fun.

5. Clinique Chubby Stick in

I have mentioned my chubby sticks over and over. They are so easy to use. I am partially sighted (I cannot see) , so it is very easy to mess up my eye makeup. These eyeshadow sticks are very easy to control. The pigmentation is quite good. The application is super easy. It spreads evenly and does not really crease (unless you colour your lids in too much and then, yes, after a while, it may crease). I have a couple of shades, but the one I reach for most often is Fuller Fudge.

So, you can now watch my video where I talk about these faves in more detail (maybe even subscribe to my channel?? 😍😍).

Have you tried any of these products? What are your Friday faves? Let me know in the comments below. Don’t forget to “follow” my blog (or Youtube channel), so that you never miss out on my super duper rambles.

Thanks for stopping by.

Get ready with me//partially sighted

Hi everyone,

I have been watching Youtube makeup tutorials for a while and I really enjoy them, but they are not for me. What I mean is, I see titles like:

Makeup for glasses

Or

Get ready with me in the dark

And I kinda cringe.

You see, I have registered as partially sighted (visually impaired) and have achromatopsia (rare color deficiency). I cannot relate.

When you cannot see well, makeup tutorials for people who wear glasses cannot be intricate coz well…. you cannot see. It is as simple as that!

I filmed a Get Ready With Me video and showed how I do my makeup. When I watched it I thought to myself,

Who will watch this amateur GRWM?

But then I thought,

this IS my reality.

And the reality of many, like me. So, I shared.

GRWM

My focus is on the base (foundation). At the moment, I am using the Clinique Beyond Perfection foundation (I like it). I also choose a bold (ish) lip colour (I 😍 Clinique Pop).

My eyes usually have one colour on them. I usually use an eye shadow stick because they are easier to control and harder to mess up.

I use primers and setting sprays to hold the look together.

I do not really do smokey eyes or wings or yada, yada, yada.

Oh! And if someone is around, I ask them to check my makeup. See if everything is looking OK because I cannot seeeeeee.

You see, for me, putting on my makeup in the dark is kinda like a reality, NOT a fun YouTube click bait idea idea. So, if you are in the same boat as me, check out my video and maybe give me some tips. I will be back with more Get Ready With Me videos coz I need to be more descriptive.

This is the video

Let me know what you think.

Getting an unexpected diagnosis: the one about colourblindness

There I was. Shocked. Feeling a bit robbed. Questioning myself. How could I not know? The mind plays tricks on us.

I thought I was red/ green colourblind. Turns out I don’t see any colours.

I have achromatopsia (or some sort of incomplete achromatopsia).

I am what is known as colourblind. Literally. So, I don’t just mix up my colours. I actually don’t even see them! Or do I?

20180618_144208

Colour is perception. Light, rays, rods and cones all join in to send a message to the brain. The brain then ‘sees’ the light/ colour. That is my simplistic explanation. A bunch of people see the same colour and give it a name…..

green

But now I know that what I thought was colour, was probably a tone or a texture, an illumination. My images are shades of grey, white, and black with an occasional dash of pink (or something….or nothing….).

How could I not know? What games was my mind playing on me?

I have all the symptoms of an achromat

Nystagmus (wobbly iris)

Myopia

Photophobic/ photosensitive (I squint a lot and wear my sunnies all day long, even when there are clouds)

How I found out

I was so excited on Saturday. I was going to try these glasses that claimed to restore colour vision. You would put on the glasses and see colours. Of course, these glasses do not work on everyone (I was warned). I wanted to try them. But first, they needed to determine what type of coulourblindness I had. I did the tests and got the diagnosis.

Achromatopsia

Very rare (2000 people in the UK).

So, what do I do with this information?

I am still the same person.

That is what everyone is telling me.

20180618_144100

You see colours your way.

That is what people tell me.

You still see the way you saw.

That is what everyone is telling me.

But I don’t. I don’t know what I see. I want to know what I can see. Still coming to terms with this. I have to adjust to a new normal. Was what I thought was pink or purple actually grey? Is everything grey? I am confused. Still confused.

Two days later.

Face Oils: my new love

Hi lovelies,

We all like our skin to be nice and soft, don’t we? The older you get though, the harder it is. The T word starts to be part of your vocabulary when you go to Boots (T word aka Texture). Today I will focus on a skincare product I started using and fell in looooooooove with.
Facial Oils

During Christmas I bought the M&S advent calendar. In it there was a small facial oil. It is called.

Balance Me Rose Otto Face Oil, 30ml

I chucked it in my skincare stash and just forgot all about it. A couple of weeks ago I had a look at that stash and saw the facial oil again.

I first asked myself,
Do I need a face oil?
The answer is,
Yes!

Balance me facial oil.jpg

Why?

  • Face oils are very beneficial for you skin.
  • They hydrate and nourish your skin, even if you have oily skin. They actually boost your moisturiser.
  • Oils help you have a healthy glow
  • They help make the application of your foundation smoother. If you have dry patches, your foundation may stick to them. When you apply an oil, those dry patches become softer, making your skin softer and smoother.
  • Oils also act as a barrier against harmful pollutants. An oil is one more layer of protection!

Application

Put it between your palms, warm it up, and then apply all over your face. It is better to use it under your other products. It should be your first layer. You should do this morning and night.

How does it feel?

It does not feel greasy. It leaves your skin nice and soft. It does not sting. It makes dry patches vanish and it smells nice (light rose scent which is not really noticeable).
I have the mini and I will definitely buy the full size.
If you are interested in other minies that I ended up getting in full size, please read this post. Do you have any facial oil recommendations? If yes, what are they? Please let me know in the comments below.

Double cleansing: my fave cleansers

I am 42 years old and I may not be very persistent on my skincare routine, I mean I do wear creams and stuff, but I do forget, but I never , eva sleep with my makeup on!

I am 42 years old and have never slept with makeup on!! Neva, eva! I may forget to moisturise, but never to cleanse.

Today, I am going to talk about double cleansing and some of the products I love to use. Double cleansing is part of the Asian beauty regimen.

What is Double Cleansing ?

Using two products to clean your face, to take your makeup off. Usually the first product is oil based, so the makeup melts, and the second product will have water in it, it will be milder.

My favourite cleansers

I love using my L’real extraordinary oil to break down the makeup and then I go in with my simple foaming cleanser or some facial wipes. I know, I know, the beauty gurus are probably rolling  their eyes.

L'oreal cleansing oil

I then go in with my Garnier Micellar Gel to take the residue of the oil off my skin. I prefer the Micellar gel to the water because, first, I do not waste any product and second, it feels like I am actually cleaning/ washing my face.It does not sting or hurt. It does not leave my skin dry (although I do need to boost it a bit afterwards, so I do lather up with oils or creams).

garnier close

I also use facial wipes when I am in a hurry and then use the Micellar gel. In fact, the micellar gel is the product I use the most.

I made a video a while back where I talked in depth about double cleansing and went through loads of products. If you are intersted, do check out my YouTube video.

What cleansers do you use? Are you a fan of double cleansing? Let me know in the comments below.

One beauty product forever & my favourites

This post contains affiliate links
What would be the one beauty product you could not live without? I mean category. If you had to save one thing, what would it be? What do you neva, eva leave the house without? Is it mascara? Eyeliner? Foundation? Blush? What is it?
Mine is lipstick. I love lipstick, I always wear it and often reapply it throughout the day.

I ❤ lipstick

My favourite lippes of all times

I have two faves. One is a beautiful pink and it is more for autumn  (plum pop) and the coral for the summer (poppy pop). The Pop line feels very nourishing and although it is not marketed as long lasting it is quite long lasting. It comes with a primer (in it).
clinique pop.jpg
This is a liquid lippie that I love and have repurchased once already. It is summer coral. Very comfortable on the lips and very long lasting. It does not go cakey on ya. I ❤ it.
Laura mercier.jpg
Kat Von Di Lolita
Yes, worth the hype. Another liquid lippie which is a nude hot pink. It feels comfy on the lips and very long lasting. I do want to get the lip liner though and make it even more long lasting.

Lip oil
Have you tried any lip oils? If you haven’t and you want to make your lips look juicy, this is what you need in your life. I have the YSL lip oil in…… It is very hydrating. It does look like a lip gloss. Does not last long but does feel nice on the lips and makes your lips…. kissable.
Mac Retro liquid Lippie Back in vogue
This is a long lasting liquid lippie in a nude pink. I love it!
Mac.jpg
This is my fave drugstore lippie. Again, hydrating, quite long lasting and a nude pink. Your lips but better as they say. I have repurchased this one as well.

This is my YouTube video with swatches and a bit more info. I’d ❤ it if you checked it out (and subscribed maybe)

So, lovelies, any lippies you think I should check out? Do you have any favourite formulas? if yes, which ones? I’d love to know in the comments below.

April Favourites: Beauty and Random

Hi everyone! Time for April favourites!! I missed a month cause well, February is so short and my faves didn’t really change. I do have a few new faves I wanted to share hence the post and video.

Beauty

Chubby Stick in Fudge
I have talked about chubby sticks before. They are one of my favourite Clinique products. If your vision is not amazing, like mine, these sticks are amazing for applying one shadow on your eyelid. Some people use more than one ( I do as well), but mostly I use one chubby stick and am ready to go. This is a very rich brown with a bit of shimmer in it. It does not crease. It is creamy and easy to apply. You can see my swatch here and check it out on my video. You can get your here.
Mascara
I tried a new (new for me, I mean) mascara from L’oreal. It is the Telescope mascara. If you like your eyelashes to look kinda long and separated, you should try this!! It makes your eyelashes look really nice and black. It does not shed. You can get it here.
Makeup mist
I got the Urban Decay all nighter and never used it. I heard tati talk about it and found it and started using it again. I love it. let me be clear though. This mist does not make all my makeup stay on all day, it does make most of it stay though. My blusher and highlighter in fact, do not budge. I usually have difficulty making my makeup last, that is why I am really excited about this product. The mist is not very water-y. I would not say it is fine either. You do not look like you have been in the shower though after you spray this on. It dries down quite quickly. You can get yours here.
Primer
I love my M&S Hydrating Confidence Booster primer. It hydrates. It feels like water. Not sticky and it also plumps up your face :). You can get it here.
Autograph Hydrating Primer
Overnight mask
I bought this product because there was a 2 for 3 offer on at Superdrug. What am I talking about? The Olay overnight hydrating mask. I am in my forties and have dry/ sensitive skin. This mask (which I apply at night when my skin needs pampering) is very hydrating. It gets absorbed quite easily, making your skin feel nice and soft in the morning. There is no scent and it does not feel greasy. A little…blob goes a long way :). You can get your here.

Random

TV show
The Crown. I love it. I started watching it with my bf and we are really into it. I have also learnt quite a lot about British royal family, cause we always end up googling what was shown on the episode!!
Music
I have been listening over and over to the Weekend’s “Call out my name”. I do not like the video clip (I don’t get it). I do love the song though!!!
Backpacks
I got a backpack from TKMaxx because my shoulder was hurting me. I love it. There are lots of pockets, the padding is soft (so it does not hurt, it is much easier to carry around as the wight of whatever you are carrying is balanced. I am actually thinking of getting a summer-y one. Here are my top picks.
Clip detail backpack
It has stormwear technology and is very on trend.  It has magnet fastening and inside zipper pockets. You can check it out here.
Capture
Somerset
I went on Easter holiday to Somerset and loved it. I posted a vlog which you can checkout here. It was really nice. I went to Longleat Safari park, Salisbury (and saw the Magna Carta) and Stonehenge. You can watch my Youtube video for more….
What are your favourites this month? have you tried any of these products?
Talk soon…..
xx
